Stretcher Bars
The finest option for mounting artwork on canvas still comes from softwood stretcher bars, despite the expanding stretcher frame technology being several centuries old. These bars may all fit together without any fasteners. Use a mallet to square up the frames, then check to see if they are square by measuring the diagonals. There are hardwood wedges provided for the stretcher bar corners. After or before stretching, depending on your technique, you can insert these into the corner slots and use them to tighten the canvas again if necessary. Please use our Stretcher Builder or Canvas Builder to place an order if you are interested in made-to-measure custom sizes.
